What is a payment receipt?

A payment receipt is a document a seller issues to confirm that a payment has been received against an invoice or sale. It states the amount paid, the date, the payment method and the invoice it applies to. Unlike an invoice, which requests payment, a receipt acknowledges that payment has been made, giving the customer proof and you a clean record.

Receipt or invoice?

An invoice is a request for payment, issued before money changes hands. A receipt is confirmation of payment, issued after. A single invoice can have several receipts if the customer pays in instalments. What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice requests payment before money is paid. A receipt confirms payment after it is received. One invoice can have multiple receipts for instalment payments.
Is the receipt maker free?
